SCARSDALE, N.Y. – The Scarsdale Public Library has launched new programs aimed at students of all ages and senior citizens.
The library is partnering with Tutor.com to allow students to get live, one-to-one help from certified tutors online. Any resident with a Scarsdale Public Library card can access the service from the library website without charge.
In addition to live tutoring, the K-12 Student Center, College Center and Adult Career Center from Tutor.com include a real-time writing center and 24/7 access to worksheets, videos and tutorials in myriad subjects. The live, online tutoring and resume-writing service is available from 3 p.m. to midnight seven days a week.
"Education is a core value in Scarsdale," said Library Director Elizabeth Bermel in her press release announcing the program. "By partnering with Tutor.com, the Scarsdale Library is virtually open 24/7 for its patrons when it comes to learning. This program allows Scarsdale students and parents to get the extra help they may need no matter what time of day or night."
In the K-12 Student Center, students can get help with homework, test preparation, skills and concepts they are learning in class and standardized test preparation and college entrance exams. Subjects include math, science, social studies and English.
In the College Center, there is subject-specific help and students can prepare for the GED, get resume help or prepare for graduate school entrance exams.
In the Adult Education Center, people going back to school can get subject-specific help, study for a citizenship test and prepare for the GED and, in the Career Center, job-seekers can get help writing a resume or preparing for an interview.
Also, the Scarsdale Library is teaming up with Scarsdale Recreation Department's Seniors Program and At Home at Scarsdale Village for a 10-week program beginning March 21 in which senior adults will take part in various art forms as well as creative and mental exercises. The program will run from 10 to 11:30 a.m. This workshop will be run by Aina Lagor.
The Brain, the Arts and You is limited to 10 participants. Register is now being accepted at the reference desk. The materials fee is $20, with checks payable to the Village of Scarsdale.
