SCARSDALE, N.Y. – Scarsdale went to the dogs – or dog – over the weekend with seven reported sightings of a pit bull running loose.
At 3:18 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, a call was made from 54 Crossway about a medium gray pit bull with no collar. The dog acted aggressively when the Scarsdale police officer tried to approach. Police called Greenburgh Police Department's animal control division for assistance, but the dog left the area.
At 4:56 p.m., another caller reported the dog at 58 Crossway. Again Scarsdale police could not get near the dog and Greenburgh was called to tranquilize the animal. The ploy failed, however, and the dog left the area.
Another call at 6:32 p.m., but the dog was gone when police arrived. Calls started again at 7:26 Sunday morning at the Crossway fire house, then at 11 a.m. at Saxon Woods and Mamaroneck roads, with similar results.
The next call came at 3:15 p.m. from Westchester Reform Temple, where multiple people had reported seeing the dog, which reportedly had headed to Saxon Woods Road. The temple called again at 3:55 p.m. and reported having trapped the animal in the play area, but police found the dog escaped from custody by the time they arrived.
The dog remained at large as of Monday.
